Let’s be honest here, men. When it comes to fashion, we have it easy. We do not have to face all the pressure and stresses that women face when it comes to dressing and looking good. In fact, most of us can pretty much get by with not caring at all.
Pro Tip: Instead of sitting around in frustration because it’s taking so long for your significant other to get ready, take advantage of the situation. This is a perfect time to turn on the Xbox or Playstation and get in some good gaming.
Still, there are some of us who do slightly care, and there are moments and events where, no matter who you are, you are going to have to put at least a little thought into what you wear.
The Casual:
Let’s not over complicate things here. Jeans and a t-shirt. It’s that easy. If you are younger than 25 and you want to wear tight low cut jeans then, well whatever. For the rest of us maybe some loose fitting jeans might be a little more appropriate.
Shorts? If you wear jean shorts someone is going to laugh at you. That is a guarantee. They might not laugh in your face, but try to keep an eye on people walking by you. Once they think it’s safe the chuckles will start pouring out. All this to say that unless you get pleasure out of people laughing at you, stay away from jean shorts. As far as normal shorts go. If you keep the colors neutral and the length long you are pretty safe. Look, unlike our finer gender counterparts, our legs are not at all sexy. You do not need to be showing them off. However, if you have some nice calves, well, there are women who do appreciate them. So rock your shorts but there really isn’t a need to go very much higher than knee level. Let’s not forget that we do have dangling parts in the bottom half of our bodies. Nobody wants to see that.
Shoes? Are you going for a run? Then why for the sake of all that is good are you wearing running shoes? Just stop it. Can’t go wrong with Converse. Really, and this is where we might have the biggest advantage over women, go for comfort first, style second. Wear shoes that can take a beating and can go with just about everything.
Listen, if you are spending more money on your kicks than you make in a week, you are probably not too worried about what we have to say about your style. Just, I mean, seriously, why? They are shoes. You step in some of the worst crap all day long. Do you really need to step in that crap in your thousand dollar limited edition Jordans?
Semi-Casual:
Let’s call this the mullet of fashion. Business at top. Party at bottom. Remember those jeans from before? Keep them on. Now, throw on a nice dress shirt and a slick sweater or even a coat and you got it. Simple, yet classy. You really can’t go wrong.
Suits:
Every guy needs to own at least one good suit. You are going to have to go to weddings and job interviews. You need a suit. Go get one. Stick with the classic black, navy blue, or grey and you are golden. Remember the old rule: Your belt must always match your shoes.
Ties?
People used to say that if you wore a patterned shirt you need a solid tie and vice versa. That has gone completely out the window lately. Patterned shirts with patterned ties have become more than common lately. The only thing you really need to worry about is color matching. Avoid clashing colors.
For the Daring:
There are those of you who are going to want to stray from the norm. The biggest thing you need to remember is OWN IT. Whatever crazy fashion statements you are trying to pull off just own it. Want to sport the bowtie? After all, bowties are cool. Own it. Think you can rock pink? Own it. It’s all about confidence.
In fact, it’s always all about confidence when it comes to your fashion. Carry yourself well and you’ll find that is all the style you need. Remember you are the present. Your clothes are only the wrapping. Great presents should always come in nice wrapping.
